  On February 14th, the Civil Affairs Department of Jiangsu Province announced the Jiangsu 2021 Marriage Big Data. In 2021, the civil affairs departments of the province handled 466,947 pairs of marriage registration, and in 2021, the province accepted 240,435 pairs of divorce registration applications. After 90, it became the main force of marriage. In 2021, the average age of marriage registration in the province was 31.22 years old, and the average age of first marriage was 27.29 years old.

  A total of 466,900 couples were registered for marriage throughout the year.

  In 2021, the civil affairs departments of the province handled a total of 466,947 pairs of marriage registration (including 80,635 pairs of post-registration), which was 5.16% lower than the total number of marriage registration in 2020. Among them, 466,281 couples of mainland residents registered marriage, and 666 couples of foreign-related, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents and overseas Chinese registered marriage.

  Judging from the annual trend of marriage registration, the number of marriage registration in the whole province has shown a downward trend year by year in the past five years. In 2017, the number of registered marriages in Jiangsu was 675,508, in 2018, 637,705, in 2019, 569,442, in 2020, 492,373 and in 2021, 466,947.

  The post-90s generation is the main force of marriage registration.

  In 2021, the average age of marriage registration in the province was 31.22 years old, including 31.88 years old for men and 30.56 years old for women.

  In 2021, the average age of first marriage in the province was 27.29 years old, including 28 years old for men and 26.52 years old for women.

  According to the age groups of men and women who registered for marriage in 2021, males accounted for 10.61% aged 24 and below, 34.08% aged 25-29, 18.15% aged 30-34, 6.9% aged 35-39, 8.6% aged 40-49, 14.23% aged 50-59 and 60.

  Women account for 17.25% at the age of 24 and below, 31.92% at the age of 25-29, 16.03% at the age of 30-34, 6.7% at the age of 35-39, 8.34% at the age of 40-49, 14.41% at the age of 50-59 and 5.35% over 60.

  Judging from the age difference between men and women in the province’s marriage registration in 2021, men are 1-4 years older than women, accounting for 43.16%; Women are 1-4 years older than men, accounting for 22.66%; Men and women of the same age accounted for the third place, accounting for 16.29%.

  Nanjing has the largest number of registrations and the oldest marriage age.

  From the geographical distribution of domestic residents’ marriage registration, Nanjing, Xuzhou and Suzhou rank among the top three in the province. In 2021, 59,230 couples registered to get married in Nanjing, followed by 54,187 couples registered to get married in Xuzhou. Suzhou City ranked third with 45,296 registered marriages. Zhenjiang has the least number of registered marriages in 2021, with 14,616 couples.

  From the average age of marriage registration, Nanjing is the latest, at 33.19 years old; Taizhou is the earliest city, and the average age of marriage registration is 30.5 years old.

  "520" became the most popular wedding day for couples.

  In the past 2021, ten days were favored by new people, namely May 20th, May 21st, June 1st, September 9th, March 18th, December 31st, November 12th, December 2nd, February 19th and September 22nd. Among them, 520, which means "I love you", is the most popular. On that day, 17,663 couples registered to get married in Jiangsu.

  The average age of divorce is 37.98 years old.

  Since the implementation of the Civil Code of People’s Republic of China (PRC) on January 1, 2021, the civil affairs departments of the province have earnestly implemented the cooling-off period policy for divorce. In 2021, the province accepted 240,435 pairs of divorce registration applications, and completed 134,943 pairs of divorce registration in that year, accounting for 56.12% of the total number of divorce registration applications; 87,635, if the divorce application is voluntarily withdrawn within the cooling-off period or fails to be processed within the time limit, it is regarded as withdrawal, accounting for 36.45%; 17857 couples are in the cooling-off period of divorce or the period of registration and certification, but they have not been settled yet, and they will continue to handle it in 2022.

  In 2021, the average age of divorce registration in the province was 37.98 years old, including 38.85 years old for men and 37.11 years old for women.
